The most common skin diseases in the scrotum are eczema, ringworm, scabies, and riboflavin deficiency.
(1) Scrotal eczema:
Most lesions are limited to the scrotum, sometimes extending to the skin near the perineum and anus, and the penis is usually rarely involved. Generally, there are two types: penetrating type and dry type.:
Exudation in the skin manifests as edematous swelling, accompanied by erosion, exudation, scabs, and cracks in the middle.
Dry skin is rough and dry, with deep lines, hard skin, increased pigmentation, and may be accompanied by skin atrophy or hypopigmentation spots. Local itching is unbearable, especially during free time and at night. The condition can last for months or even years.
(2) Scrotal ringworm
Tinea cruris is a fungal infection that is mostly spread by tinea cruris and sometimes affects the skin of the perineum, buttocks, and pubic bone. The rash has clear borders and scales are often visible on the surface. It is related to the climate in the early stage. It often develops or worsens in summer and alleviates or recovers in winter.
Repeated attacks for a long time will thicken the skin, increase pigmentation, and deepen skin lines. At this time, it is very similar to chronic eczema. But classic jock itch is also common near the rash.
(3) Scrotal scabies nodules:
This infection is caused by scabies mites. If there is a history of scabies infection, dark red nodules the size of soybeans or even broad beans will appear on the scrotal skin later, slightly higher than the skin surface. The surface is smooth and the boundaries are clear. The number may be large or small, but they do not merge with each other, and the area is extremely itchy.
(4) People who are deficient in riboflavin:
Most patients spend their time in collective life. Riboflavin deficiency is mainly caused by eating habits, gastrointestinal dysfunction, increased labor intensity, or insufficient food nutrition. Some are also accompanied by glossitis, cheilitis, angular stomatitis, etc. Scrotal rash is mostly symmetrically distributed on both sides of the scrotum. In the early stage, it appears as mild erythema, 2 to 4 cm in diameter, with clear edges. The back surface is covered with gray-white scales, and the base is reddish with multiple layers of silver-white scales.
