What are the brands of medical herbal therapy preparations

Currently, compliant medical herbal therapy preparations commonly used in regular hospitals in China mainly come from brands such as Yunnan Baiyao, Tong Ren Tang, Pien Tze Huang, Kang En Bei, and Zhijun. Some specialties also use products from imported brands such as German chamomile medical thread and Japanese Ryukakusan medical herbal version.

Many people may not know that the medical herbal preparations we are talking about are not the same as the daily herbal skin care and ordinary health care products sold on the market. To qualify for medical use, you must obtain a national drug approval number (traditional Chinese medicines with a Z mark) or a medical device registration number. Just having a famous brand is useless, as it depends on the qualifications of the specific product. When I was following up in the dermatology department, I met many patients who were prescribed herbal repair dressings. They asked for a certain Internet celebrity brand, saying that it was better than what was prescribed in the hospital. In fact, the brand was not even brand name, and the herbal extracts in the active ingredients accounted for less than 0.3%. We usually prescribe Yunnan Baiyao or Tong Ren Tang herbal dressings with a brand name of Yunnan Baiyao or Tong Ren Tang. After six or seven years of clinical use, the allergy rate is less than 0.1%, and the effect of reducing redness and repairing is real.

Of course, this does not mean that all old brands are reliable. Nowadays, various brands are paving the way for herbal medical use, and the quality of products is also uneven. Some colleagues have previously exposed a new herbal oral spray from a well-known traditional Chinese medicine brand. It is promoted as being able to cure oral ulcers. In actual clinical comparison, the effect is not as good as ordinary light salt water. After stepping on the pitfalls once, our department has never bought this product again. There are also different preferences between imported and domestically produced products. For example, many doctors in the anorectal department like to use German herbal hemorrhoidal ointment, which has much fewer side effects than pure chemical preparations. However, some patients feel that imported products are too expensive, and the effects of using domestically produced products of the same type are not much different. This is a matter that varies from person to person.

To be honest, we never look at those wild listings on the Internet when selecting clinical products. The core criteria are two, one is compliance, and the other is feedback from patients who have used it for so many years. For example, we often prescribe Conba's medical version of herbal preparations to treat throat discomfort, Yunnan Baiyao is preferred for trauma healing, and Pien Tze Huang, a herbal preparation related to liver and gallbladder conditioning, is used more. There is no saying that anyone is better than others, and symptomatic treatment is the most important. If you want to buy it by yourself, don’t just focus on the brand name. Look at the back of the package to find the approval number. Those with the national drug approval number Z or the mechanical number are serious medical products. Even old brands have many daily chemical products. If you buy the wrong one, you will waste money and may delay things.
