Frequent urination at night in patients with prostatitis can be alleviated by adjusting drinking habits, applying hot compresses to the perineum, using antibiotics as directed by the doctor, performing pelvic floor muscle training, and taking α-receptor blockers. Prostatitis is usually caused by bacterial infection, prolonged sitting, spicy diet, decreased immunity, pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and other reasons.

    1. Adjust drinking habits

Limit the amount of water you drink 2 hours before going to bed and avoid diuretic drinks such as coffee and strong tea. Maintain 1500-2000 ml of water intake during the day and drink small amounts in portions. Reduces nocturnal bladder filling irritation, helping to reduce urination frequency. A urination diary can be kept to monitor daily fluid intake and frequency of urination.

    2. Apply hot compress to the perineum

Apply a hot towel at about 40℃ to the perineum for 10-15 minutes, twice a day. Heat can promote local blood circulation in the prostate and relieve urethral pressure caused by inflammation. Be careful to avoid burns, and it is prohibited when combined with acute infection or fever. The effect is better when combined with warm water sitz bath, and the water level should cover the buttocks.

    3. Use antibiotics

Bacterial prostatitis requires the use of levofloxacin tablets, cefixime dispersible tablets, azithromycin capsules and other drugs as directed by the doctor. These drugs can penetrate the prostate capsule and inhibit pathogenic bacteria. The course of treatment usually takes 4-6 weeks. It is forbidden to drink alcohol while taking the medicine. If you have rash or diarrhea, you need to stop taking the medicine and seek medical treatment immediately.

    4. Pelvic floor muscle training

Perform Kegel exercises every day. Contract the anal and urethral muscles for 5 seconds and then relax. Repeat 10-15 times in one group. Continuous exercise can enhance the ability of the bladder neck to control urine and improve the increase in nocturia caused by pelvic floor muscle relaxation. Muscle soreness may occur at the beginning of training, and excessive exertion should be avoided.

    5. Take alpha blockers

Tamsulosin hydrochloride sustained-release capsules, doxazosin mesylate tablets and other drugs can relax prostate smooth muscle and reduce urinary resistance. Common side effects include dizziness and orthostatic hypotension, and bed rest is recommended after the first dose. This type of medicine needs to be used continuously for 2-4 weeks to be effective, and the dosage cannot be adjusted by yourself.

Patients with prostatitis should avoid cycling or sitting for long periods of time and get up and move around for 5 minutes every hour. In the diet, reduce the intake of irritating foods such as peppers and alcohol, and eat moderate amounts of zinc-rich foods such as pumpkin seeds and tomatoes. Maintain a regular sleep schedule and try meditation to relax and fall back asleep after urinating at night. If the symptoms last for more than 2 weeks or hematuria or fever occur, you need to go to the urology department in time to complete the prostate fluid examination. Keep warm at all times, as cold may aggravate pelvic congestion symptoms.
