The itching on the testicular skin becomes more itchy when scratched, which may be related to factors such as scrotal eczema, fungal infection, contact dermatitis, neurodermatitis, and vitamin deficiency.
1. Scrotal eczema
Scrotal eczema is a common allergic skin disease, which may be related to hot and humid environment and irritation from the material of underwear. It manifests as erythema, papules, exudation and severe itching, and secondary infection is easy to occur after scratching. For treatment, hydrocortisone butyrate cream, compound dexamethasone acetate cream and other glucocorticoid ointments can be used as directed by the doctor. In case of combined infection, mupirocin ointment needs to be used in combination.
2. Fungal infection
Caused by pathogenic fungi such as Trichophyton rubrum, it is characterized by annular erythema with scaling, often worsened by sweating. It is recommended to keep the affected area dry and avoid sharing towels. Antifungal drugs such as miconazole nitrate cream and bifonazole cream can be used as directed by the doctor. In stubborn cases, oral itraconazole capsules are required.
3. Contact dermatitis
It occurs when you are allergic to detergents, condom materials, etc., and manifests as well-defined erythema and swelling at the contact site. Allergens need to be removed immediately, rinse with water and apply cold compresses. In severe cases, mometasone furoate gel can be used for a short period of time. It is recommended to choose hypoallergenic toiletries for daily use.
4. Neurodermatitis
It is associated with mental stress and excessive scratching, and is characterized by lichenification and paroxysmal itching. The vicious cycle of itching and scratching should be broken, and cotton gloves can be worn at night to prevent unintentional scratching. Treatment methods include oral administration of loratadine citrate tablets and external application of compound flumetasone ointment.
5. Vitamin deficiency
Vitamin B2 or B6 deficiency may lead to skin barrier dysfunction, manifested as symmetrical erythema and desquamation of the scrotum. It can be supplemented by ingesting animal liver, eggs, milk, etc. If necessary, take vitamin B complex tablets as directed by your doctor, but other skin diseases need to be ruled out.
You should choose loose and breathable cotton underwear every day, avoid using alkaline shower gel, and dry wrinkled areas promptly after bathing. If there are signs of infection such as exudation or suppuration, or if there is no improvement after 3 days of self-medication, you need to go to a dermatology department for fungal microscopy, allergen testing, etc. for a clear diagnosis. It is not recommended to use hormone-containing ointments on your own for a long time to avoid adverse reactions such as skin atrophy.
