Whether cervical inflammatory disease is serious or not needs to be judged according to the specific type and condition. In most cases, timely treatment can effectively control it, but in a few cases it may cause complications.
Cervical inflammatory disease is usually caused by a bacterial, viral or fungal infection, and common symptoms include abnormal vaginal discharge, bleeding after sex, or dull pain in the lower abdomen. Mild cervicitis can be relieved within 1-2 weeks through standard antibiotic treatment such as azithromycin tablets, doxycycline tablets or metronidazole suppositories, combined with local cleaning care. Chronic cervicitis may cause cervical erosion or Knott's cyst, which requires laser treatment or cryotherapy, and regular cervical cancer screening to rule out high-risk HPV infection. Without timely intervention, ascending infection by pathogens may lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, fallopian tube adhesions and even infertility. Cervicitis during pregnancy may also increase the risk of premature delivery or premature rupture of membranes.
Under special circumstances, cervicitis caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae or chlamydia may rapidly progress to pelvic abscess, requiring intravenous antibiotics; Patients with immunodeficiency diseases or uncontrolled diabetes are prone to recurrent infections and the formation of deep tissue lesions. Persistent infection with some high-risk HPV types may induce cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, which requires colposcopy biopsy to clarify the grade, and cervical conization if necessary. Long-term chronic inflammatory stimulation is also associated with the development of cervical cancer, but this process often takes years.
After being diagnosed with cervical inflammatory disease, you should avoid sexual intercourse until it is cured. Choose pure cotton breathable underwear and change it every day. There is no need to use alkaline lotion when cleaning the vulva. In the acute stage, appropriate hot compresses on the lower abdomen can be used to relieve pain. Routine leucorrhea and cervical TCT examinations need to be reviewed 3-6 months after treatment. If you have fever, severe abdominal pain or increased purulent secretions, you must seek medical attention immediately. Pregnant patients must strictly follow the instructions of an obstetrician when taking medication.
