Dysmenorrhea accompanied by waist pain can be relieved through hot compresses, drug analgesia, moderate exercise, dietary adjustments and traditional Chinese medicine conditioning. Dysmenorrhea is usually caused by factors such as increased prostaglandin secretion, abnormal uterine contractions, cold coagulation and blood stasis, qi stagnation and blood stasis, or pelvic lesions.

    1. Hot compress

Hot compresses on the lower abdomen or waist can help relax the smooth muscles of the uterus, promote local blood circulation, and relieve spasmodic pain. You can use a hot water bottle or baby warmer, and control the temperature at 40-50 degrees Celsius for 15-30 minutes. When applying hot compress, care should be taken to avoid scalding the skin, and excessive heat or cold should be avoided during menstruation.

    2. Drug analgesia

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen sustained-release capsules and ketoprofen enteric-coated capsules can inhibit prostaglandin synthesis and are suitable for primary dysmenorrhea. For severe pain, antispasmodic drugs such as compound nonoxynol ether suppositories can be used under the guidance of a doctor. The medication needs to be avoided during the active period of gastrointestinal ulcers and should not be used continuously for more than 3 days.

    3. Moderate exercise

Starting from the 2nd to 3rd day of menstruation, low-intensity exercise such as yoga cat pose, slow walking, etc. can promote the secretion of endorphins and relieve pain sensitivity. Avoid strenuous exercise that may increase pelvic congestion. It is recommended to exercise for 20-30 minutes every day, preferably with a slight sweat, and the effect is better when combined with abdominal breathing.

    4. Diet adjustment

Increase the intake of warm foods such as brown sugar ginger tea, longan and red date soup, and reduce raw and cold foods, caffeine and high-salt foods. Appropriate supplementation of calcium and magnesium tablets or intake of mineral-rich foods such as bananas and dark green leafy vegetables can help reduce neuromuscular excitability. Drink 1500-2000 ml of water every day.

    5. Traditional Chinese Medicine conditioning

Aifu Nuangong Pills can be used for those with insufficient qi and blood, and Shaofu Zhuyu Granules are suitable for cold coagulation and blood stasis, and must be used through TCM syndrome differentiation. Combined with moxibustion or acupuncture treatment at Sanyinjiao and Guanyuan points, 2-3 times a week. For long-term dysmenorrhea, it is recommended to continue regulating for 2-3 menstrual cycles after menstruation is clear.

It is recommended to keep the waist and abdomen warm during menstruation, avoid sitting and standing for long periods of time, and place soft cushions to support the waist when resting on a hard bed. If the pain lasts for more than 3 days or is accompanied by fever or abnormal secretions, organic diseases such as endometriosis and pelvic inflammatory disease should be investigated. Keep a menstrual diary to record pain patterns, and provide a detailed medical history to your gynecologist during your visit.
